SLIMNETS Research Presented at IAMG 2026

On 27 August 2026, research conducted within the SLIMNETS project was presented at the 24th Annual Meeting of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG 2026), held in Montreal, Canada.

The presentation, entitled “Recent Advances in Space-time Modeling with Stochastic Local Interaction Machines (SLIMs)”, was delivered in the session S17 – Advances in Spatiotemporal Modeling, co-organized by Dionissios Hristopulos (Technical University of Crete), Sandra De Iaco (University of Salento), Xiao Xia Liang (Princeton University), and Guillaume Pirot (The University of Western Australia).

The work was authored by Dionissios T. Hristopulos, Konstantinos Bekos, Nikolaos Paraskakis, and Athanasios Liavas.

The presentation highlighted recent developments in space-time Stochastic Local Interaction Machine (SLIM) models, focusing on flexible short-range precision matrix formulations inspired by differential operators arising in Boltzmann–Gibbs processes. The proposed framework aims to overcome the cubic computational scaling associated with standard kriging and Gaussian process regression, while also addressing different constructions of space-time precision matrices, likelihood-based parameter estimation, and data-warping approaches for non-Gaussian and heteroskedastic data.

The presented research was carried out within the SLIMNETS research project, funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.), under the 3rd Call for H.F.R.I.’s Research Projects to Support Faculty Members & Researchers (Project No. 25024).
